This year our event is a couple of weeks before the federal election. This is a critical election for Muslim communities in Canada. The theme of this year’s event is “The Federal Election: What’s at Stake for Canadian Muslim Women”. Our main activity at this year’s event is a panel featuring candidates from each of the political parties.
The panelists are:
- Sadia Zaman (Moderator): Managing Director at the Royal Ontario Museum.
- Adnan Shahbaz: Green party Canada, Candidate for Oakville North-Burlington
- Farheen Khan: NDP, Candidate for Mississauga Centre
- Karim Jivraj: Conservative Party Canada: Candidate for University-Rosedale
- Salma Zahid: Liberal Party Canada, Candidate for Scarborough Centre
The performers are:
- Shazia Javed: filmmaker, writer and photographer.
- Hawa Y. Mire: diasporic Somali storyteller, writer, and strategist who focuses on themes of Blackness and Indigeniety, (dis)connection and (un)belonging.
