It is a time of gratitude and appreciation for what we have been granted by God Almighty.
It is the month the message of Islam was revealed to the Prophet Mohammad, may God’s blessing be on him.
It is the month we voluntarily deprive ourselves of not only food but of our negative attributes, such as anger and envy.
It is the month we put others needs’ ahead of ours and learn to be generous of our compassion, time, and money.
We give charity- zakat- to ease the lives of those in need, whether our neighbour here or our neighbour in other parts of the world.
We pray for forgiveness and ask for Allah’s mercy for all of us, especially for those who are suffering so severely in poverty, conflicts and cruelty from each other.
We pray that hatred and intolerance amongst us Muslims is annihilated and replaced with acceptance and compassion.
We pray that what we practice during Ramadan will extend beyond to the rest of the year.”
